This is a unique value chain project in the East African region that involves linking Cotton Production to Textile Production to Garment Production and finally to export market in Europe.
Key partners in the project include:
- African Cotton & Textile Industries Federation [Lead Project Implementor]
- Individual Companies [Fine Spinners Uganda Limited, Alpha Knits Ltd, Kiboko Leisure Wear]
- Support Partners
- Team of Consultants
The project was originally planned around under BCI Certification for production, value addition and processing of final garments with links to EU market. However due to challenges of weather and BCI membership, the project was modified to focus on CMIA certification [Cotton Made in Africa].
Coincidentally, both of CmiA and BCI are sustainable brands that share a collaborative agreement between them. The project was also modified to have Fine Spinners Uganda Limited as the company to process CmiA Cotton and supply fabric / yarn to Alpha Knit and Fabric to Kiboko Leisure wear. Fine Spinners Uganda would also participate as a garment manufacturer considering that the factory is fully integrated [Yarn Processing, Dyeing, and Finishing & Garment Manufacturing].
